Now you can start installing a new OS in the ordinary way from a bootable diskette or
CD or from under Windows.
8.2.4 Installing another Windows on a different disk
To install a new Windows OS onto a different disk, do the following.
When installing a new OS from CD, select the CD item in the Operating systems area
of Acronis OS Selector main window.
When installing a new OS from diskettes, create a new Boot from floppy item by
selecting OS New Boot from floppy in the Menu line.
Then right-click on that item, select from the context menu Operating System
Properties Disks and set the target disk, where the new OS will be installed, to
be the first.
Reboot and select your CD or floppy bootup from the boot menu, having inserted the
disk with the OS distribution.
Once booted from a disk, follow instructions to install the OS.
By setting the target disk to be the first, you will force the boot part of Windows to be
installed on that disk so that the new operating system could boot even if the first disk is
damaged or removed. However, you may choose not to do it. The new operating system
will then boot from the first disk, in spite of its system folders residing on another disk.
8.2.5 Installing additional Windows copies
In some cases, you might need to install two copies of the same Windows OS (e.g. two or
more Windows XP copies, each having its own properties and application sets).
The first way to do it is to use one of the methods described above. These imply a
complete OS installation.
The second way is simpler: operating system duplication using the Operating system
copy feature described in detail in section 7.13 of this guide. The program will fully
duplicate contents of Windows, Program Files and Documents and Settings folders,
including all software installed, into the Bootwiz folder. You will be able then to remove
unneeded applications from each of the systems.
However, keep in mind that the Copy feature does not allow copying an operating
system onto a specified disk or partition.
8.2.6 New Operating System Wizard
If you installed a new copy of Windows NT/2000/XP on your PC, the New Operating
System Wizard will help you set up its properties when you run Boot menu of Acronis
OS Selector for the first time.
